I got one back in 2002. The wife died and I got lost in the bottle every night for many many years after that... Took me about 15 years to start living again.
Maybe a similar story here, lost my first wife in 1997, sobered up just in time to make the worst mistake of my life by marrying the evil #2.
To the OP, where I grew up drinking a driving won't a big deal. I should have had several. Later I got a job that required a clean DL and spotless background checks. No more risking the loss of income, there was always somebody willing to pilot the ship anyway.
