No Model 357 Colt was marked Trooper. The Trooper was a nice service revolver, indeed, but the Model 357 was Colt's premier .357 Magnum revolver model. They came with a superior fit and finish, and a higher grade of factory tuning, vs the Trooper. And, you are correct, they give nothing at all up to the Python in those terms. The Python was the exact same grade of gun, only styled more to appeal to target shooters rather than police officers, the difference being exclusively in the barrel and grip design.


Not to pick nits, but they are all marked "357 Magnum" on the barrel and most you will see are also marked "Trooper" but they are not the same gun, which was my point...
