That's just the angle of the camera/photo.

Notice how the flat of the octagon barrel at the top of the photo seems to be wider than the bottom one?

That's also part of the illusion created by the camera angle.

If the camera were top-dead-center over the barrel, you could see that the gap on both sides is the same.
