I didn't read the whole thread, so I apologize if this has been pointed out.
The God-fearing man prayed to an omnipotent God, and got approval to run. Then he lost.
Who is to blame?
God always answers our prayers. The answer to a prayer is often no, which we might not be what we like but which is often exactly what we need. That and I really don't think God meddles in politics, we have to suffer the consequences of our choices.
