Bottom line... Regardless of your state’s law (even if you live in a “stop and identify” state), the police can *never* compel you to identify yourself without reasonable suspicion to believe you’re involved in illegal activity. Period.
I don’t think anyone will get away with not complying with a request for ID anymore.
When I was a youngster I just once wanted to give the Vulcan “V” hand sign and reply “citizen, planet earth” when stopped by the cops and asked for ID. I just never had a night I wanted to needlessly spend in jail.
