I will say, it's FAR more common in URBAN/CITY environments. My best workers out of boot camp were always the farm boys, the worse were the city kids.
This has been my experience as well. And most of the time, the big city kids simply never turn out.
There are some exceptions to the rule, but not many. That's why most of the city folks choose admin type jobs. They don't make good mechanics, IME.
