My first love is spot and stalk style hunting for whitetails and mulies. That being said, I really look forward to chasing pheasants and partridge for a couple weeks each fall too. Pulling the trigger on birds is much less of a commitment from the cleaning and processing standpoint. Nothing better than frying the day’s bird harvest for dinner. Grouse can’t hang with the others on a plate so they largely get a pass from me. I have to travel to do both hunt types so generally do a combo with deer hunting early and late with birds bagged mid day. I’m blessed to have great hunting land in both my family and my wife’s. It gets exponentially better if there is some cold and snow to bunch up the birds. Said weather normally happens around the deer rut so it’s a win-win!
