I had a 25-06 and used it for deer for several years until I burned out the barrel and had it rebarrelled and chambered to 25-284 just for my curiosity. I was never real impressed with the performance of the 25-06 compared to other rifles I have for deer hunting so it was sitting in the safe a lot. Even with 100 and 120 grain partitions, it shot well but terminal effects were not impressive IMO....

Now that I'm thinning the herd a bit, the 25-284 is also for sale as I just have too many overlapping rifles these days and need to concentrate on a couple for a change...

Hard to believe a 308 would be too much recoil... I would have to believe it comes down to crappy stock design as 308 really isn't in the painful end of recoil with the proper stock design, recoil pad, and loads....
