I think vortex's whole pricing model is to calculate sending 3-4 scopes to all the actual shooters, and 1 to all the folks that just mount it and leave it under the bed, often without even noticing defects.
Kinda like the planet fitness pricing model, where they become more and more profitable the less people actually use their product.
The goal is to get a purchase outta ya - not actually use the damn thing! That would cost them a fortune!
