I get that, but that deer has antlers, a deer that size here in MN would have spots and wobbly legs, still wet from birth.

Animals of same species and genus need larger body mass the further north or south to the poles in order to retain heat.
Animals that are sub tropical or tropical of same type don't need large bodies to retain heat.
In time they become subspecies of the overall genus they belong too.
