An anecdote on metal bands, another childhood wristwatch lesson.
As a young man, leaning in over the engine I was tuning, resting my left hand somewhere in the vicinity of the exposed positive battery terminal
I manged to touch the expansion bracelet to both the battery + and the inner fender sheet metal at the same time. There was a loud crack and a blinding flash of light. About 3 milliseconds later I ripped the red hot watch/band off my wrist and flung it the length of our driveway. Still have the hash mark scars.
