What exactly was he "trying" to do, lose the game? Two downs before, they had just came off one of those fluky plays that totally shifted the momentum. NE hadn't really stopped Lynch the entire game and, in fact, they gave him the ball immediately after and he moved the ball to the 1 1/2 - 1 yard line. Now it's second down and you choose not to give it to the best short yardage back in football, three more times? No second guessing here; that was pure hubris on the part of Carroll. This SB reminded me quite a bit of the Rose Bowl that USC lost to Texas. The karma from Pete's USC days/departure and Reggie Bush may have caught up with him.
