Just checked, all my Rugers are still driving tacks, with absolutely NO "tinkering" I chuckle every time this thread pops up.
Same with the 15 or so Kimber Montanas I have owned. Not a one of them was tinkered with, other than my trigger weight preference, and all were and are tack drivers.
