It's time to start working toward the summer Campfire fun at Armijo Springs, NM. The SW gang that created this event (krp, dennisinaz, Darby, CCCC, mudhen, Roninaz, THOMAS MAGNUM) will use this thread for info and planning.

The gathering will take place July 15-17 at Armijo Springs Campground in the Apache/Gila NF. Some will arrive early and stay late, which simply adds to the enjoyment. We had 54 participants last summer, the largest group yet, and that number included 14 ladies and 11 kids. Of course, we encourage those. Actually, our total number is secondary – it's been great no matter the number.

FOOD: Master cook will be krp (Kent) with Darby (Joe) as chief helper and others to be ID'd. They will lead all of the meal planning and organize the volunteered food

SHOOTING: Although there always is plenty of impromptu firearms activity, denninsinaz (Dennis) and CCCC (Paul) will set up/run the organized shoots. Special shooting aspects this year – more later.

CAMP: The campground has ample nice flat sites for tents vehicles and RVs and it features a one-hole unisex USFS privy (no issues with gender mysteries or discrimination). Those who arrive a bit early or stay after have been very good about helping with set up and clean up, and we need that. CCCC will honcho the setup on Thursday PM/Friday AM. He will provide tarps and most of the rope needed for the main shelter and shooting covers, ladders/tools, the US Flag, extra water supply and some other items. Everyone takes responsibility for leaving the place clean – some pitch in with final clean-up.

DRIVING:
From the north:
US Rte. 60 west from Socorro, NM or east from Springerville, AZ.
In Quemado, NM, take NM Rte. 32 south for about 18 miles, passing mile mark 24
Look for sign “Armijo Springs”, turn east (left) on CR A021 and proceed about 4 miles
Turn right at “Y”, drive a bit and listen/look for the commotion.

From the south through Reserve, NM:
NM Rte. 12 east to Apache Creek, then north on NM Rte 32 about 23.5 miles, passing mile mark 23.
Look for sign “Armijo Springs”, turn east (right) on CR A021 and proceed about 4 miles.
Same final.

So, mark the dates, make your plans and advise ASAP if you are coming, volunteer to bring good stuff as practical (just bring yourself if you are traveling long distance) and come prepared to enjoy some fine folks and moments.

Later posts – soon to come – will address food and other needs. Specifics on the shooting contests will be posted within the next 10 days.

IT IS RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED THAT THIS THREAD BE MADE A STICKY.
