Reading loads in couple of manuals, and they talk about the renaissance the 45-70 has had. A few threads on here about 1895. I am sure people use 223, but in my part of the country, I don't know a single person below 6mm, and # of people using 45-70.

38 grains of Reloader 7, should be managable by you guys, if not you drop down 33. Starting load for antique trapdoor rifles.

There are a bunch splats on the ram from 45/70 Sharps, aperture sights at 400 yards. Mild load of 5744. It ain't a googled image.
