For me it's a question of balance. I prefer a weight forward rifle. Anyone can remove 2 or 3" of barrel if they want, but it's not especially easy to grow those same 2 or 3" on. They're using the same no.2 contour on the LA Fieldcraft, why not have just kept it the same 24"?
Balance for me as well.
I did the majority of my hunting this past year with a 21" 6.5 FC. I also have a FULA with a 23" Douglas #2. The difference in my ability to hold on target while shooting off-hand is very noticeable. Shooting prone or from a rest I really can't tell much difference....off hand is a whole different ballgame.
It's a minor thing to have one cut/crowned if desired.
