As many of you know, there was a recent revelation of an 'incident' involving extreme scumbaggery on the part of a member that took place on this forum in 2013-2014. Sadly, many solid, generous members were fleeced by this scoundrel, who shall remain unnamed. As a result of a bright light finally being shined on that despicable scam, a couple of folks (Rooster and Rem 141, I believe) suggested a game be started involving the now useless, sawed-off end of what was once a serviceable, trusty 12 GA Winchester pump gun barrel.

The game would be simple: pictures of Stubbs would be taken by members in current possession of him (yes, it's a 'he') and posted to the thread. From there, Stubbs would be sent off to another member. Dealer's choice is best on this, I figure, and the next player should be chosen from members who've expressed interest in being part of the game. The process will repeat until ultimately, after members hopefully will have logged images of Stubbs in all 50 of our glorious states at least once (multiple posts from states with multiple members are fine), Stubbs would boomerang back to his rightful owner (that'd be me). A permanent memorial of some sort might be in the cards, if Stubbs actually makes it back here. Goalie would likely be commissioned for this small project, if he is willing.

I thought it a grand idea, and on another related thread we had a couple dozen members post that they'd be willing to represent themselves in their home states--or other states they were visiting, if practical-- and tote Stubbs along with them in search of fun and comic relief, as well as represent a fitting F-U to all crooks and unworthies out there. And so it shall be!

Stubbs will be heading off to the next member tomorrow, and soon, that unnamed member will share his shots while hosting the sainted Stubbs baton before also passing it on to the next fella of his choice. In the parcel there is a sign-in sheet, of sorts. Those of you sharing in the fun are asked to enter their info under the state(s) and locations they played with Stubbs in, then passing it on with Stubbs when it goes out to the next location.

Let's get this thing started. I've knocked out three states, All shots were taken in the last ten days.

I know, my man, but thanks for mentioning it. And you're right, there are lost of wee bones in the head that are basically free-floating once the soft tissue is gone. I was more running a test trial just to see what happens. I spoke to a guy who's done dermestid beetle skulls on mammals for me in the past, and he said that if I wanted to, he'd do a tuna skull gratis just to see how well it works and if it were practical for him to offer fish skull cleaning to his clients. I'm waiting for a 500 pounder or better to have done properly.

Thanks for the comments so far. I fear that at some point the USPS is going to ruin this chain for everyone, but fingers crossed, even though it'd be a damned miracle if it actually makes it to every state and back here. Really looking forward to what others have in store and are going to share here.

No, sir. Last time I looked we only had about 20 states 'spoken for'. I have to run, but later I can dig out the other post and pull the guys that had their hands up as to being willing to play, with the intended states they were ready to represent as resident or guest.

I'm toying with the idea of looking into figuring out how to create an interactive map, one where members had flags on the map of the U.S. on all places where they'd taken Stubbs, and being able to click on the flags in all locations and having the campfire handles and pics that were taken in their locations come up. That'd be pretty cool...

We *had* BGG volunteer at first but CashisKing posted a follow-up that I assume was a joke and BGG bagged out, I seem to recall. With very few exceptions I'm perfectly happy with anyone playing. Aces, they're undoubtedly the size of relatively small bait fish, but as Geno points out they are damned *delicious* fried up or broiled. Not just OK, but terrific eating. I'll toss up a post on our outing at some point, maybe.

Thanks for the other comments, though. Mrs. KG is down for just about anything I do outdoors, especially if we can bring the dogs. She's come to love it almost as much as I do, and it's a real joy to have her as my lifelong wingwoman, or whatever...

Thanks for your willingness to play. Just so we're clear, there's no limit as far as states being already 'taken'. The knife is a 2 blade Barlow, made by ATCO of Japan. As best I can figure, it's designed as a basic utility knife, though you're right that the blade on this one looks like as if it is designed for a more specific cutting task, though I can't say as far as it being designed specifically for cutting rope. I got it along with a a bunch of others when cleaning out my late aunt's estate. I believe it's a 50s or 60s vintage.

Well, the tour has reached the West coast. Well, not quite the coast as we're a good 5-7 hr drive away, depending on route, weather, and road construction.

The man of the hour, so to speak , arrived in fine shape this afternoon, plenty of tape on the package. More than plenty. But not quite an excess.

However, dick that I is, I cut the dang end off with a pair of shears and ruint the bottom of Leighton's nice plastic cover over the State List. He's a pro for sure........me? Not so much.

The situation is not dire, but it may be rectified if I can find a plastic sleeve around here. Or a giant ziplock.



Mr Stubbs, being a well rounded man about town, will not be relegated to only outdoor pursuits while a guest on the 7Acre RANCH! Some here know I have a fondness for epicurean delights. Thanks to Stubbs' dad, kamo_gari, who provided ideas for marinating some snow goose breasts I was gifted (actually the whole goose, I'm rarely lucky enough to get them cleaned already), Stubbs was available for assistance in the galley this evening. He assisted in the production of some Kerrygold Reserve, aged over 2 years, cheddar and goose breast quesadillas. He politely declined an offer of some for his dining pleasure, as he didn't want to get cheese and goose grease on his magnificent finish.

As is photographically evident, Stubbs is a fan of cast iron also. He would fit in on fora other than only the Hunters' Campfire, however, for ease of following his journey I will only post his visit records up here:



He was a pleasant dinner companion and did not hog the conversation, while seated to the right of the head of the table (OK, my computer desk, but I'm still the head of it) :




Tomorrow will hopefully bring a bit better weather for something outdoor related. Had Stubbs arrived a bit earlier, he may have gotten in on some attempts at starling population reduction. Unsuccessful, as the 8-15 mile per hour variable and gusty wind with blowing snow was not conducive to accurate shooting I guess. Stubbs suggested a ballistic calculator to plug in the 7.56 gr projectile, +/- 1000fps, and 25 yard distance at our elevation and latitude. I may have been using the wrong holdover and right compensation for the 3/4 value wind out of the North.

I'll have to check and make sure, but I think the only game seasons we have open right now are for non-game animals, yotes and jacks. I may decide to take ol' Stubbs up the hill for a walk in the new melting snow just for fun though. Take a 20g along for a walk.

Stubbs will be heading to Washington in a coupla days, for a vacation in Hawai'i following.

I went thru something similar with a bulged 1400 mk II replacement barrel.
Lots of 1300 barrels out their when I was looking for mine.
Slumlord has that bulged barrel as a land corner marker now I think.

Sold that win 1400 MkII.
Actually a fairly decent semi auto for what it was.
I ran the pizz outta it shooting 5 stand and sporting clays.
Ran 3 boxes of shells thru it fast as I could reload it one day for schits and giggles proof fire.

One day on a dove hunt for literally 35 40 mins straight.
I couldnt feed it fast enough.
Birds were getying by me doing rapid reloads.
Gun was hot hot hot hot.
Didnt malfunction once the entire time I owned it.

KG, I'm good to go with the Michigan bros get-together. However, if Mr Stubbs is still in circulation later this year, I could bring him to through one of the more undesirable states, that being Illinois. I rarely stop, but I can certainly take a snap of Stubbs with the Loop in the background going by at 80mph. Of course, I'd have to go through Indiana to get there, so I 'spose we could add that one to the list as well. Thinking fall Nodak duck hunt trip.

Two out of the three here get concerned with the spring piston air rifle when I am trying to snipe a starling.

Probably turn inside out if I lit off the gauge near them.

Wife told me they didn't look too pleased when I shot the fox in the Gulag with my .380 one night.

Now, they get downright excited when we go for walks at the refuge and a peasant comes out of the bushes and crosses the path. Problem would be, they don't hold them until one walks up on them. They want to hunt birds at 25mph.

I'd be proud to represent Georgia on your list when the time comes!

Stubbs is such a little genitalman , he insisted on helping with chores at sunup. I was willing to let the little fella sleep in, after the cross country trip, jet lag, and all that you know. But he was up bright and early. Didn't even need coffee to get started. Dude is tough, low of 17F this morning with a 90% humidity level from yesterday's wet snow. Brrrr. I asked, but he didn't even want a coat.

And he went with to feed the emergency winged food supply (quail, Eurasian doves, jay, even the juncos if need be.) TEOTWAWKI you know, could be right around the corner when all the vaccinated folks start zombifying.



Please note, Stubbs has asked that when he's vertical he'd like his "bead" to be on top, as he considers that his head and he believes his profile shows better in pics that way.

The little guy even wanted in on the homemade sourdough bread deal this morning. AFTER it came out of the oven of course.



Who knows what the future holds for the magnificent Mr Stubbs. A trip up into those hills behind the 7Acre RANCH! this afternoon or tomorrow? A trip to the refuge to see some cranes, geese, and swans and stuff? Or maybe I get him out back and split some wood with him. Too cold for gardening.

Uh oh, starlings spotted on the perimeter wire at the Gulag. Attempting to maneuver into the feed and water area. Stubbs to serve as spotter at the sniper's hide.



We got the shot away, Stubbs calling come ups and stuff, but I think he had me hold off left a mil or two too far. I saw the varmint swoop off at a downward angle to the west, look like he'd end up in the garden beds, but it must have been an evasive maneuver learned from avoiding hawks and such. No enemy kills found. But tomorrow's another day, and the good thing about starlings..................another will be along shortly.

After a nice midafternoon nap, time for more chores around the 7Acre RANCH!.

While on the way to the shop to get a wrench, Stubbs noticed the big yellow thing parked next to it. Like most kids his age, and many men of an older age class, he wanted to start it up and move some dirt or something. Maybe he had training with Tonka Toys like a lot of Boomers, maybe his gramps still had his?

Off to the backyard for some fun killing another type of "varmint" (them dang varmints abound, everywhere all the time eh?)

Springtime around here call for firing up the weedburner. Somethings just have to die, and we are averse to spraying in the backyard where the dogs are. Besides, it's much more fun to watch these little things fry. And they are small, that's 3/4 minus gravel in the picture. Stuff in the lower left is red stem fillary, not a problem for me or the dogs.

A "good job" to anyone who can ID these at this stage. One of the earliest blooming weeds in this territory. 17F last night, snow on the ground this morning, and some of these have blooms starting already, as is evident in the ones at center right:

All in all, from appearances at least, Stubbs appears to be enjoying his first full day here in the outback of Calioto. I only wish there were more outdoor opportunities of the hunting and fishing variety at this time of year. Even ice fishing would be sketchy as some of the colder, higher elevation areas are getting up toward the 50's with bright sunny days like today. You'll not get me out on the ice now.

More tomorrow before I start getting him ready for another ride in the mailman's truck.

My wife and I have incomes, so once a week or so we "stimulate" the local economy by eating dinner prepared by others. Saw an ad in the local rag that our nearby Lodge was fixin' the corned beef stuff. Called to order two dinners when they opened at 4pm, for a 5pm pickup, then went for a walk with our guest and the pups. Got home, dropped off the pups and Mom, got in the car and drove to the place. Upon arrival I was asked if I was "so and so". Nope, I called at 4 and left the name Geno. Oh, well these dinners are for the "so and so's". I took a stand on the other side of the lobby and watched the show while I waited. A few folks came and went. Masked and maskless, me of that latter variety, but socially distant as that's the way I am anyway.

Finally, 5:25 or so, the gal comes over. "There was a mix up with some of the to go orders, yours is being prepared right now."

OK says I, thanks. But, I'm about a half hour past my dinner time and I get really grumpy when I get hungry.

Good by me. I was going to leave them a good tip for the two dinner price, being as how there is some Irish blood flowing around. Instead, I left them the two dinner tip and only had to pay for one dinner, therefor leaving a higher percentage for the actual workers today. Well, it's with a slight bit of moisture in my eyes that I'm posting in this thread tonight. Probably spring allergies, it could never be because Mr Stubbs has continued on in his journey across this great Country that it the US of A.

yesterday, Stubbs got to see one of our wonderful sunrises, the little guys seems to have no problem getting up with the sun to feed the chickens and birds with me. Anybody up early for fishing, farming, or hunting type exploits should have no problem rousing him from his sleep.



I hope the rest of you folks that get a visit from Stubbs continue his well rounded education. Yesterday he learned some light vehicle maintenance. In between service intervals the dang check engine light comes on to let folks know to check all the fluids, rotate tires etc. As long as I was out there to do those minor requirements, I figured what better use could the time be put to. Stubbs! Oil-check, Coolant-check, Brake Fluid-check, tires still round-check. Use the series of maneuvers the Toyota guy gave me and the little dashboard light out-check.

Today he had a short visit to the reloading room. He got to see items not found on many reloading benches, although around this place it wouldn't surprise me to find another loonie with something similar or even more rare.

I'm in the slow process (some health issues over the winter, etc) of working up a good load for the .25-20 and .256WinMag with smaller "non-toxic" bullets in that caliber. No loading data exists to my knowledge. Bullet "tips" are hard to find in a suitable size. The ones in the foreground were machined by our very own vapodog from larger bullets suitable for a .257 Bob or .25-'06 .(thanks vapo, I haven't given up yet).

The cases, as you can see, are original Winchester brass, correct headstamp, not resized .357Mag. Complete with an original box. Some of the stuff I have for that round came with a rifle I bought, some from gun shows. Besides the rifle I have a custom revolver with a .25-20 cylinder also. The pistol has taken a javelina in AZ with some Speer Hot-Core bullets, but I cannot hunt with them here, therefor the attempt at finding a suitable load with a Barnes type bullet.

Stubbs got a little lesson in obsolete cartridges and the troubles we loonies go through to keep them running.



And then, on his trip to the post office for his ride to the next stop, one last look at the Warner Mountains in a little storm we're having. Post office was getting ready to close or I might have stopped at the range to puncture a little paper during a break in the rain. Interesting that I caught that pic right where the turn for the range is in front of that little homestead on the left (complete with a motorless motorhome in the driveway for the last 3 years or so)

I like very much the idea that we get to see Stubbs in different places doing lots of interesting things but also maybe being able to learn a thing or two about other members' lives, and parts of their worlds.

I'd no idea your AO was so desert-like. Looks to be low rolling hills with pine and scrub. Very different looking from what I'm used to from my days running about coastal CA.

Nice on the sourdough. Are you one of those folks who keep a starter batch going for months/years/decades? I once read a fascinating story about a SD batch that was more than 100 years old, having been passed down to family members. Those are some dedicated bakers.

No pines to speak of down here on the flats. Folks homesteads and stuff where they've been planted. We're being overrun by juniper though. Water thirsty fuggers, take up space in the sagebrush/grassland. And we are considered a "high desert", I think we average about 12" moisture a year, a good portion of it snow we get in the winter. The pines start for good about 700' higher than us in elevation. Those Warner Mountains in the last pic go up to just shy of 10K', 9892' according to the map on the wall here. Actually some alpine habitat up there.

Not sure how old this starter is, a year or more I think. Two jars of it in the fridge in case one goes bad. Longer it goes, the sourer it gets.

We love our "keeds" too. We'd even love them if they were those dang bleck labs.

If this is still going in august I can take him on a camping trip west through SD and drop him at someones place on the trip. Going to Mt, Id, Ca. +?

If one of these Mud Ducks or Yoopers cant dip a toe in WI with him then I can take one for the team and host.

Missed this earlier. I've not even looked to see about a replacement barrel, bud. I picked up the defiled 1300 for short money years back just to have an extra barrel. The original shotgun I bought was a 1200 'speed pump' Ranger model I believe. It was the extra 1300 barrel that the Grubbster butchered. Truth is, after I got it back I just chucked it back in the safe and it's been there for the last 7 odd years. Wouldn't shock me if it was further sabotaged/messed with mechanically... That was my very 1st long gun and it has a world of fond memories attached to it, but it's now just one of more than a dozen scatterguns I now own and now really just keeps the others in the stable company. I do appreciate your thoughts and input, however.

Just wanted to let the participants know that the honorable Mr. Stubby arrived today and is in good spirits and great health although a little tired from the recent trip. He will rest for a few days and then head to Maui. He will be given excellent accommodations and treated with the respect and fondness that a “man’s first shotgun” deserves.

How in da hell in de fugg does someone that claims to work at the wally world eye shop make a fugging hacksaw cut like this.
I dont know in what fughing dimension this is called a level cut.

Hint....
GG next you decide to butcher a barrel of any firearm.
Take a 2 metal hose clamps .
Tighten on the barrel with just enough space for a 30 TPI blade in between.
Adjust the screw drums for clearance opposite somewhat of each other, and adjust while cutting.
Use fughing some type of cutting oil , even hoppes gun oil for fugg sakes while cutting, hint it helps with a clean some what way more smooth cut.
Then it is way easier to dress and make look professional.
Complete the cut with a light touch, even a blade alone held in your fingers at the end to clean off the sprue instead of bending it back and forth to snap it off.

How in da fugg do you move a vent rib almost 1/4th forward of the muzzle????

Well Stubbs has been liking hanging out with me, Just kind of chilled last night with some fine home cooking my wife came up with. And then hung out in the man cave for a while!

Today he asked me if there was anything Utah was famous for so off we went on a little adventure up the canyon.

I’ll get mine posted once my IT department is up and running. My wife spent ANOTHER week in the hospital with the same issue as a month ago, a ruptured appendicitis. The <incompetent> cucks, aka as doctors, didn’t remove her appendix the first time and told us that her chances of getting another appendicitis were the same as if she had never had a ruptured appendix.

I’m on a mission.....actually I’m on the warpath after watching my girl suffer twice from their ignorance.

I’ll definitely get the pictures and story posted.....eventually. Sorry for the delay but at least Stubbs is still getting the grand tour. He had a great time here and in Maui, that much I promise. 😁

OH! Way cool! After our quick back & forth when you had him but were forced to deal w/much more important family stuff I was under the impression that the HI trip was cancelled. I told that gummer that no one would ever hurt him again, and that even his crippled up, horrific appearance wouldn't matter one bit with the good men who volunteered to foster him. Stubbs got to do a little swimming with the dogs yesterday and had fun even though the water is still a little cool.

We went and visited Saltair and the Great Salt Lake today.

Well Stubbs and I enjoyed the holiday weekend and his final night in Utah. He is headed to Wyoming right now.

Where is gophergunner, haven't seen him around lately. Last I heard he moved to the Brainerd lakes area.

I am just dropping a short note to say that Stubbs made it to Wyoming courtesy of crittrgttr. He is heading to the woods shortly, but I wanted to give him a proper welcome.



I did a quick side trip to the state capitol. We didn't have time to try to see the governor.



I did feel sorry for Stubbs. It almost looked like someone had fired black powder through him before the amputation. That even offended my lax sensibilities in the gun hygiene department.

My wife and I had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Stubbs for a weekend at our modest cabin in the Medicine Bow National Forest. The forest had suffered a 175,000 acre fire last year on top of a 30,000 acre fire in 2018. Due to a forest lockout that was not lifted until the snow started falling last year and the snowpack that only receded in the last couple of weeks, we all were going to be seeing some damage for the first time.

Mr. Stubbs was an amiable but quiet fellow. He has travelled quite extensively for a stub of a shotgun barrel. He said that he really enjoyed Hawaii. He said something about bad pizza. He recently arrived from Utah, where he said that he considered identifying as a muffler or a corset.

After resting up on Friday night, we showed Mr. Stubbs around the cabin. We were not sure what we would see in our adventure, so we started with some of the easier stuff to show him. Here is a picture of the cabin, although it was taken on Sunday. It was the site of a 2010 Campfire event, which was attended by some esteemed members.



The photo came out at a Dutch angle, but it seemed to fit Stubbs.

We did have a muley doe in the woods to the east side of the cabin. While Mr. Stubbs did see it, it was too obscure in the picture, so I have not posted it.

Cabin Squatch is supposed to guard the place when we are not around. We have to consider a replacement. Squatch proudly showed Mr. Stubbs the reminder of the moose that dropped by and dissed him in April of this year.



Squatch also was within spitting distance of a black bear that dissed him last September. We showed Mr. Stubbs the remains of the bear’s deposit, along with a photo of the same droppings when they were fresh.





Although there remained 2 days left in black bear season, and there were reports of bird feeder and garbage raider bears in the vicinity, we never saw one in the flesh. So, it is up to some Campfire Davy Crocketts to do better than these two cruddy photos. At least Mr. Stubbs may have seen something new.

Stubbs thought he could do a better job than Squatch. (I believe that the bar is rather low.) Stubbs said that he once fought a duel with a lobster who had impugned his honor. He said that he fitted himself to a prosthetic mechanical lobster and bashed the other lobster’s brains out.

We headed out to check on the fire damage. There were some reports of a mosaic burn and some indicating that places looked like the lunar surface.

While we were en route, Stubbs spotted a languishing snow pile barely clinging to life and insisted on making a snow angel. He said the snow reminded him of frolicking in the snow with his parents a few months ago. He was melancholy at first, but the snow revived him.



We usually enjoy heading to an old mining development near Douglas Creek and Lake Creek. Here is a boarding house site as it appeared this weekend.



Here is what it looked like until last year.



We took the road through the old mining town of Keystone. We and Mr. Stubbs were saddened to see Douglas Creek meandering through the burn scar. Any rain is going to produce a lot of muddy runoff. There are a lot of small, private mining claims along the river. It is going to be sporty hunting that area when the grass returns and the wind starts blowing down all of those trees.



Back at the cabin, Mr. Stubbs wanted to lounge about my wife’s gorgeous tulips and daffodils.



I am sure some of you pervs were thinking something different. Sorry to disappoint you.

We brought out our cabin shotgun, Rossi, who also has an MSW in firearm therapy. He visited with Mr. Stubbs and explained that even the lowliest, plastic-stocked example of the shotgun maker’s art can work as well as the finest heirloom. In fact, Rossi is a grouse killing machine. We broke out a bottle of barrel 21 of private stock Wyoming Whiskey, which was the first barrel of Wyoming Whiskey sold to the general public. The project was spearheaded by our Campfire friend eh76, and a few Campfire members were in the buying group. The barrel was put up in 2010 and the whiskey was bottled by group consensus in 2019. It is reserved for honored guests and special occasions. Here is a picture of Mr. Stubbs and Rossi just goofing off. Note that the open range cattle had left traces of their visit of some time ago.

We made a second foray into the woods. We went to check out an old mica mine. This one had burned forest all around it but somehow survived. I never thought I would prefer seeing beetle killed trees to a worse alternative! Although Lewis and Clark were never here, Mr. Stubbs did walk in the footsteps of ltppowell. (Lt. was Clark’s actual rank, notwithstanding the fib that he and Merriwether Lewis told the men.)



Here is Stubbs lounging with some Mica. We could not get the sun to cooperate to show the glint. This stuff is used in the manufacture of metallic paint for vehicles. It was in short supply after the [bleep] Daiichi nuclear disaster. [Edited to add: Only artificial intelligence could have bleeped out that proper Japanese word, especially considering the substitutes people use here that get through the filter.]



We also took Mr. Stubbs to one of the residence buildings near the mine. Stubbs said that he had saved his stimulus money and that, with interest rates so low, he was considering buying a “fixer upper.” He thought this building was perfect! (He is "hanging around" in the door frame toward the top left of the door frame.) I hope he has deep pockets or substantial woodworking skills.



The area around the mine and fixer upper was part of a mosaic burn. This was within sight of both.



We were somewhat dismayed that we were unable to show Mr. Stubbs any wildlife. It is extremely rare to be in the woods for 55 or so miles and not see a single big game critter. There were a lot of fresh deer, elk and moose tracks, even in the burn scars. But, live critters were elusive. But, after leaving the mine, Mr. Stubbs spotted what appeared to be a large, blackened tree stump that started to move. This time, we were able to get a picture of the moose that Stubbs found. It is almost directly in the center of the photo. It is the first one that my wife and I can recall seeing that was wearing a collar. Although we did not see antlers showing, it is very early in the spring here, so it could have been a bull.



Mr. Stubbs has a likelihood of outliving all of us. So, with his keen eye, he should start accumulating moose preference points.

Enjoying Stubb's adventure!

We showed Mr. Stubbs Medicine Bow peak (12,018 ft.) from miles away. In 1955 a commercial airliner flying in bad weather with limited visibility failed to clear the summit by a few hundred feet and slammed into the rock face. People still find pieces-parts of airplane and human bone at the site.



We left the cabin and headed home. We showed Mr. Stubbs the Vedauwoo rock formations but somehow neglected to take a picture. We stopped at the Ames monument constructed on the Transcontinental Railroad line, which commemorates the corrupt U.S. representative and his brother who had a big part in the development and construction of the line. In a bit of poetic justice, the UP relocated the track after the construction of the monument, so the rail line no longer passes by the monument. We also photographed Stubbs observing Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado from about 50 miles away.

Poor Stubbs just got caught outside on the back deck at the house when a typical (June through August) hail storm hit. This is 5 minutes' worth, and there is a flash flood in front of the house that Stubbs did not see because I was running more patches through him. While he was getting pelted, my wife was running around trying to save small, tender plants. Like Randy in
A Christmas Story, Stubbs lay there like a slug. (Of course, I was doing like most idiots in a mass casualty event, taking pictures so my friends could see it.)

Because I didn't see anyone signed up for Colorado, I at least touched base in that state. Hopefully, someone in Colorado will invite Stubbs for a visit. It's a beautiful state, politics notwithstanding.



Rocky Mountain National Park as seen from the border. To the right of the muzzle about 1/4 from the right edge of the frame are three dots that are antelope. Stubbs saw hundreds of those, but in every case Stubbs would have been out of the frame had I zoomed on the critters.

Which episode of As The Fire Turns did I miss where wabi, even for a short time, acted like so many of the truly ridiculous jerks on this forum do every single day, all day long? And if by chance I missed it, why is he not given a pass for it as simply having a bad day, since it's obviously out of character for him. I've never seen him attack anyone, did I somehow miss it?

The trolls that plague this site with their endless back-biting and belittling of others group together and call people names, talk them down non-stop but the good people here are too intimidated to say anything about it. Around a real campfire those guys teeth would end up down their throat.

Whatever wabi did, or someone thinks he did, at least the fella comes across 99% of the time as a genuinely nice character wanting to spread good cheer and bring peoples spirits up. That's the kind of person the world needs more of. Those are the kind of people you want at your barbeque or as a neighbor. The fact that someone wants to make a deal out of something he did or said when so many genuine 100% azzholes get a pass on here just bugs the living schit of me.

I have no use for the azzholes that go so far out of their way every single day to log on here and just cut anyone and everyone down that may not toe the line and fit into their little click of juvenile miscreants. We need a hell of a lot more nice people here and more civility including some grace and mercy for someone that might have made a mistake, if in fact he did.

It's not even about wabi and what someone thinks he did, it's just plain stupid that so many on here embrace rudeness and incivility when in real life no one likes being around jerks like that. You don't want them around your family, teaching your kids anything, you can't trust them around your place or with your money.

More good men need to speak up and put rudeness where it belongs.

OK, I read what you linked and it sounds like wabi had claimed gopher gunner as a friend or acquaintance, is that right? I can see where that ruffles feathers on this thread.

I read where Kamo gari acknowledged wabi as a good guy, that's encouraging and I think he's right. But does kamo claim to have omniscience over all things GG, or wabi? Does he know their relationship? Does he know the fluidity and totality of every situation, of every members lives? If wabi claims gopher gunner as a friend, I'd say none of my business I guess, but it sure doesn't mean wabi isn't exactly what he seems to be on here, which is a generally very nice man who goes out of his way to encourage others and be optimistic, spreading cheer when he can. Gophergunner relationship aside, I say he's still exactly who he is.

I also trust that wabi will struggle in his own way and in his own time with a friendship with anyone who is genuinely a thief, so if gg falls in that category, wabi will work it out. No need to beat up a good guy, he'll do the introspection himself and sort it out w/o anyone needing to hit him over the head with it.

I do understand kamo being ruffled up, but I guess my approach would (hopefully) just be a little different, given wabi's history here. If you had a guy like me that has a checkered history, sure, maybe write that guy off, it's easy enough to do, but that doesn't seem like wabi. Of course, it's the internet, how well could we know anyone, maybe wabi is a closet axe murderer or child molester. Who could know for sure?
