first deer rifle my parents bought me was a savage synthetic stocked 270, 4 shots was about all I could handle with my shoulder turning purple. Just getting into deer hunting and guns I swore off long action rifles for years due to it being uncomfortable to shoot. 2nd experience was hot 45/70 405 loads my buddy recommended it was book safe but pulled the trigger and that hard plastic butt pad made my arm numb. I unloaded the 15 remaining rounds.
