That neck of the woods has a lot of deer - as does most of the state.
Get into the northern region - particularly the national forests - not so much.

Many people prefer to point out the ever-growing wolf population, and there is some validity to it. And many more will point at the DNR in their mismanagement of the northern zone - even more validity still.

But the two main reasons are the lack of cutting in the national forests and a complete lack-of-sense/judgement by sportsman when the DNR was handing out tags like candy.
