In the words of a good friend who chose to carry an ancient Colt pocket pistol in .32 ACP- - - - - -"Anything beats a scream!" Fight with what you're comfortable carrying, and what you can shoot well, and accurately. Arming up for a worst-case scenario probably means you'll either be uncomfortable all the time, or you'll carry less frequently than you should. My Polish P-64 in 9 X 18 might not be the ultimate manstopper, but it packs well, and I can shoot it accurately. Since I handload for it with a pretty potent powder charge behind a Hornady hollowpoint, I'm not stuck with some of the weak-sister factory FMJ stuff that's available over the counter.
