Awful lot of folks packing guns these days who have never thought through whether or not they are willing to kill someone, much less seen the elephant. All the gear in the world does little good if you aren’t ready to kill someone when the time comes. The man in that church did what he did because he was skilled with his equipment and had already worked out what he would do in that or a similar situation.
If you are going to carry a weapon, have a plan for various scenarios. Practice working that plan. Work out the deficiencies, improve times. That way, when the time comes, you are doing something you already know how to do, not having to make it up as you go along. The gun matters less when the shooter knows his business. That said, a shooter who knows his business will have enough gun to do the job. Never understood men carrying backup guns for primary defensive use.
