Depending on the rig, it's not at all "uncomfortable"; you just need to get used to it become 2nd nature.
The Remora line of holsters is maybe the most comfortable for reasons I cited above & it's cheap to try; sometime you have to experiment to find the smallest size holster that you can really use with a given gun as the chart usually is biased to a slightly large sized holster, at least to my preference.
