South central Idaho. There's lots of open country and sagebrush but we're not too far from heavy timber. The mountains are STEEP. It's mostly mule deer and elk. The 30-06 is the favorite of most hunters I know. I used a 300 WSM for years but I eventually realized that I'd never shot an elk with it that I couldn't have got just as well with an '06 that weighs pound less. So, I switched.
