Open sage brush country here in Nevada and where I hunt in Montana and Idaho are pretty open country. I hunt mostly Mule deer, Elk and Antelope . I shot a 6.5 Creed and a 6.5 X 55 along with a .243 Win for a few years, but am back to shooting the 270 Win for everything. I still use the .243 for coyotes and a truck gun. Most of my hunting buddies shoot the tried and true 30 06. The 6.5's worked but at the ranges I shoot the .270 is just more gun! In my youth a packed a heavy Ruger 77 in .338 but found my Winchester FWT .270 did just as good on the Elk. 270 or 30 06 toss up. I like the way a Kimber carries but I don't shoot a light rifle very well.
