Keep an eye to the West & SW, this time of year, pop up thunder storms that start in the bootheel of MO. or over in AR. have a way of spawning up into big thunderstorms which produce tornadoes and moving quickly into the state. The higher the temps. this time of year the better the chance for the storms.
Last Fridays thunderstorms all produced tornado or high wind damage in Putnam Co. where you all will be staying and in the surrounding counties of Dekalb, Cumberland, Overton, which all directly border Putnam.

I was just trying to give some info. We deal with thunder storms/tornadoes quite often in the mid state & Cumberland Plateau in the Spring, probably more then NY.
