Also weighed a set of Warne Mountain Tech rings with a Leupold 20 MOA Back Country rail for a long action I had lying about - 5.4 oz.

I get it; I went through the ultra light rifle craze and sacrificed to the ounce gods. But, I've learned that the extra 8-10 ounces for a reliable scope and mounting system are weight well spent in terms of the capabilities gained. Now, I like the finished weight on set ups for mountain hunting to be in the 7-8 lbs range. Seems to be the result of a good balance between getting the most out of a rig in terms of all around functionality without ending up with something that handles like an unwieldy burden.
