Lapping takes out the "Talley Pinch" and other stresses from wonky receiver tops. I can't fathom adding electrical tape to the inside of an already overly tight ring as one mentioned earlier in this thread. That's just adding additional stress.

I bed the bases/screws to the receiver in JB Weld epoxy at 25 in lbs.

Lap Rings.

De-burr and de sharpen any edges with a fine rattail file.

Mount scope in a thin layer of rubber cement.

Blue loctite screws at 20 in lbs.

As I say, at least 25 sets of Talleys this way, no failure. That's not to say they can't fail (obviously they can)...
