Eh, I hunt all over AK and other places, wherever notions and game take me. I have wood stocked rifles, synthetic, laminates, etc. I take care of them as best I can and never had a problem. If I hunted exclusively where we get 300+ inches of rain/snow a year, maybe I'd just go plastic. Maybe not, but there's a lot to be said for the right prep and understanding what you want to do.

However, even though it doesn't look like it, we got over 30" of rain during the hunt those pics of the Mauser were taken and even though rust-blued and wood stocked, it suffered no ill effects. I cannot say the same, ended up with knee surgery (again). That was in Sept of this year. The use some rifles get by folks that live and constantly use rifles in snow, sleet, rain, and salt, it just makes sense to go with stainless and synthetic, if only to not drive you crazy every evening.
