I recall one guy I saw ~20 years ago, who had a .45-70 Contender and some funky handmade grips at the range. He insisted the recoil wasn't that bad, but oddly he was trying to sell it at the next gun show...
I keep threatening to buy a #1 in .450 Nitro. They reportedly weigh 8 lbs or so.
