Nice set up. I've always liked the idea of a 30-06 or 308 for younger hunters. They can be loaded down power and recoil wise and be brought back up to full power as the shooter can handle it. My children are younger than yours but as money permitted I have bought them both Rem 700's in 30-06, both older ones. They both wear Leupold Vari-x II in 2-7. Over the last couple winters I loaded up about 750 rounds of ammo for them, for when they can shoot.
