Science tells us that an '06 shooting a 185gr Scenar starts slower out of the gate, sheds velocity faster, and drifts more than both the 123 and 139 Scenars out of say a 'Swede.

And never mind that there is more recoil with the 185's too. So tell me again, what does the '06 bring to the table?

Good post, and points noted, but consider this; One of the reasons for our selection of the 06 (aside from it's obvious proven track record), is availability, particularly if you don't reload. So when you find yourself needing ammo for whatever reason, try finding 6, 6.5 or even 7X57 as easily as you could the 06. My son is 25, is busy with life and a box of 06 is as available as aspirin. Lastly, the 'Springfield era" ended in 1940 and with the M-1 a few years later. Btween now and then, the shooting public has had over 60 years to try something else, yet the 06 remains at the top. If all those "boutique" calibers you deem superior were indeed that, they would have replaced the 06 a long time ago.

Georgie,

That is a very well thought out reply. You obviously shoot and hunt a whole bunch and make decisions based upon the volume of same..............
