The 243 is not to small for deer, I never said it was. I bought my son an all around big game rifle, chambered in 30-06 and was ridiculed and insulted for it by Boxer and Big Stick. My son and I use our 5.56x45's for high volume shooting. I understand, BC, drop and drift and readily admit that the ligher 6.5mm & 7mm bullets are more efficent at long range with less recoil. Inside of 300 yards, for one or two shots, BC, drop, drift and recoil with the 30-06 are not major factors for us.
