I am thinking I need something a little more suited for long range and sustained practice, this is why the lower recoil rounds hold appeal for me. After 800 yds the wind gets me and spotting bullet impacts gets difficult.
The 6.5 Creed is probably the sweet spot, I am worried about velocity loss with the 17" barrel. The 280 makes a lot of sense , with the suppressor it should be very well behaved from the bench.

A 6.5 Creedmoor with a 24"-26'' barrel should do you well. My 6 Creedmoor barrel is a 25" Rock and the 6.5 is a 22'' Rock.
6.5 does very well with Norma 130 gr ammo.
