Rather jump off a bridge than get in a knife fight. Buck 119 is a nicely shaped and adequately large fixed blade with an ample guard that serves multiple purposes well. If I didn’t have a gun on me, or even when I do, i carry one in the field. Anything with a nice clip point and some length. If seriously concerned about a 4 legged critter getting on you, I personally think any such knife should have a lanyard ring. I like lanyard rings on pistols too. Could be a game-changer. I have an old Puma Skinner that is such. Great knife, multi purpose, lanyard ring, and you don’t look like a wannabe Rambo strapping it.
On the skinner that hole is for sheath retention.
