you sever the spine and they drop and paddle. NO TRACKING IN THE SOUTH TEXAS BRUSH AT NIGHT COZYIN' UP TO RATTLERS AND MAD BOARS.
Shot this one at 175 yds. plus. Either he moved or I pulled the shot, but I hit him about 3" to 4" back. He ran for about 75 yds. Luckily I shot him just before dawn and by time I got to the POI, there was a good blood trail. If it had been at dark-thirty, all bets would be off.
