I believe Steve Timm used a shooting range near Estacada. We stayed at a VRBO up the hill from Estacada when we fished oversized Sturgeon on the Columbia, very heavily wooded area. A lot of Christmas tree sized Pines where we stayed, I suspect the area was clearcut several years before we were there.
Sad if correct on them setting fires, but not a surprise, unfortunately.

The area has from possibly mature third growth, 4th growth reprod to 500 year old growth. Forest Service high, then a mix of blm but mostly private timberland down lower to where it mixes with old ag lands and suburban sprawl. Ripe for flames. .
