W. Bill,

I never used the .44s on the job in an official capacity. That said on occasion I have used one to put various animals down. However, the very vast majority of animals I have put down, I have used a .45 ACP. When I have used a .44 however, I was almost always with a 240 grain SWC.

Most Marlins don't like 300 grain bullets (my experience), and in fact my experience has shown that anything past 270 grains gets iffy. My 336 44 (don't own it anymore) and 1894 both like jacked bullets better than cast. The Speer 270 grain Gold Dot was an excellent round in each accuracy wise. For cast, the standard 10G Unique and 240 SWCs produced some good groups, just not as tight as the jacketed, like 240 XTPs pushed by H110 and Gold Dots.
