Tom Hanks' News of the World is pretty good. Post Civil War era western you can watch with the wife or gf without worrying about there being too much gore.
Hanks takes some artistic license with the timeline, but it adds to the story in the time he has to tell it.
Slaves get what they need. Free men get what they want.
