For many years our 30-06 load was a 200 grain Nosler Partition on top of a case full of surplus H4831. Same load used in our three 30-06 rifles my daughters and I used. Never "tailored" the round for any of the three rifles, yet they all shot well. I attribute that to the wonderful 200 grain Partition.
Some time in the late 80's I switched to the Barnes X bullets. My go to 30-06 load now is a 168 grain Barnes TTSX bullet over a case full of H4350.
