I haven't read this whole thread, but I agree the original poster has a point. Apparently, the U.S. Army agrees, as they want a new 6.8x51 to be their new battle rifle cartridge. With an 80,000 psi pressure! Its Nom Civil is .277 Sig Fury with a SAAMI working pressure of 65,000 for brass cases.

I don't think it will ever be a Winchester anything because there is no traditional Winchester that makes guns and ammunition any longer. One company makes the Winchester ammo and one or more other firms make guns with the Winchester name.

Nevertheless, I fully expect the 6.8x51 to become popular for civilian uses in the same way as the 30-06, .308 and .223 have. The military adoption will be much stronger than any possible marketing promotion. Sig has already named it and Winchester will have to get over the fact that Sig beat them to the punch. Winchester may already have been contracted to produce the new military ammo.
