Interesting thoughts. Frankly my issue last Friday was exactly that - sweat soaked Merino wool that took too long to dry while 'cooking' under an insulation layer. I like your analogy on base layers 'cooking dry' while stationary. It is spot on. That said, I hate synthetics next to my skin. I may need to revisit synthetics.
