In 1986 two of my high school friends and I bought a 32 foot sloop and were rowing the inflatable back to it from the grocery store in Marathon, Florida with enough provisions to spend three months in the Bahamas. It was a leaky Redcrest 10 footer and was piled high with groceries. The kind of dinghy that took one rowing, one bailing, and one pumping it with air to get anywhere. A motorboat blazed by us and almost swamped us. The driver made a big circle back and then slowed up to us to offer us a tow. He said, “towing isn’t going to work, put those groceries in here and I’ll take you where you are going”. He towed the empty dinghy back to our boat and then left us after we thanked him. It was Gary Burghoff who played Radar O’reilly on MASH. Noticed he has a crippled hand and later heard that he hides it in most of the MASH episodes behind a clipboard or whatever..
