Despite what historical illiterates like Mark Levin and Glenn Beck say, the parties clearly flipped. I would say it began with Hoover. He was the first conservative president who was a Republican in the modern era.
Look at the root for “conservative”. It’s “conserve”. Conservatives want to keep things the way they are and show a respect for history and tradition. Even Civil War era Democrats were trying to conserve their way of life and their understanding of constitutional government. They were not trying to destroy or change anything as the historical illiterates would claim.
I can agree with this, and have been saying it for years.
