No, not until much later…in the 1890s and it was penned by Francis Bellamy, a socialist. And what’s more is that originally school kids did not place their hands over their hearts. They gave a Roman salute. You know arms extended straight out at about a 45 degree angle over the head with the palm down and fingers fully extended. Some other guys later on thought that was a pretty snappy salute and borrowed it for a few years.
