In some places like Southeastern Oklahoma, the slaves owned by the Choctaws were more like sharecroppers. The master came around to check on them every once in awhile and they owed a portion of their crops to him, but otherwise he left them alone and did not provide for them beyond what one would normally do for a sharecropper.
