I take it to mean that we are all created in the image of God, and thus have certain inalienable rights, etc. It certainly was never meant to read that we are all the same otherwise. Even the Founders themselves were not all alike; in looks, demeanors, intellects, etc.

Okay, never mind how you take what it was meant to say, how is it taken today? Does equality trump everything else? Is all sacrificed on the altar to “equality”? If it omitted the word “equality” and simply said men have inalienable rights granted by their creator, would it change how you see it while removing the one word that has been so misused?
