I think about Virginia in the War. At the time of the Civil War, Virginia had been a recognizable political entity for 255 years. Today, it’s inly been 234 years since the ratification of the Constitution. At that time about 70 years.
Old men alive then remembered the formation of the US well. Many men alive had parents who were heavily involved in the actual process. Knowing all of that, who would you support if you were in thier place back then? Your country with a history of 255 years or this upstart experiment a mere 70 years old?
Do you think a proud and free people with a 185 year history as a Dominion upon this continent would have entered into an experiment in union with other colonies, many of which were actively hated and despised by most Virginians, that it could not revoke and dissolve at will? It’s pure idiocy to believe that they would and common sense tells you that. If you argue differently, you’re a fool or a liar. Period, end of story.
