Wildwyo...I'd say you did just fine. Nothing is ever going to be 100% and that's just the world we live in. Besides...maybe you hit him the first time and the second shot went through the same hole?
You obviously practice enough that some quick follow up anchored the bull. Not to mention it looked as though there was a lot of room for follow up in that situation. Had the elk been standing by a thicket of trees then it prolly would not be the best shot to take.
