There's a lot of factors that affect the realistic distance for an ethical shot. One of them happens to be how solid your rest is and how good you are at shooting from odd, uncomfortable positions like the one you posted the pic of.

Another huge factor in determining a realistic distance for an ethical shot would be your data. Have you done your Homework and verified that data. Do you have a profile for the data on a PDA into which CURRENT atmospheric data at your location can be input and adjusted for. You can also print some data or, like you have, a cut turret that reflects what your verified load will do at the atmosphere you will encounter at the location of your hunt.

To put first round kill shots on game or hits on small targets at long range takes plenty of preparation. If one has not prepared properly, the ethical distance for a shot is greatly reduced.
