For me the decision to take a shot at a BG animal is highly conditional. I've past up shots at less than two hundred yards because it required shooting off hand. I once shot a buck deer in Idaho that was just under 500 yards, but I was able to go prone and was rock steady. Another time I refused to take a shot on an otherwise easy shot because of the wind. If I have to shoot off hand my target needs to be close. If can sit to shoot I'll shot farther. With shooting sticks, even farther. But I do not know what I'll try until all the circumstance are known.
